Prologue
July 13, 2136 B.G.
Flames lit the sky, and every citizen of Loringel1 ran for their lives. No one knew this would occur; not one was prepared. The cries of children who had lost their way and of mothers who searched fearfully for them mingled with the shrieks of terror as everyone scrambled in vain for a place to shield themselves from the onslaught. The same scene repeated itself all around the Planet; not a single inhabited place was spared.
Meteor after meteor bombarded the deserted city, leaving naught a building untouched. The shower seemed to last for days on end, the sound of their impact on the Planet’s surface like thunder echoed in the atmosphere and shook the earth.
And then, as suddenly as the chaos started, silence reigned.
Those who had managed to find shelter relaxed as tears of relief flowed from their eyes. Just as they were about to stand, a soft sound stopped them: a loud ‘thump’, like that of a large animal settling heavily on the ground. And then, soft clicking sounds. They came in rapid succession and slowed; raised in pitch and lowered; were stretched and cut off quickly—an alien2 language.
The humans crouched in fear, the women pulling their children close to themselves; none dared even to draw breath. The thumps shook the ground, indicating that whatever had arrived along with the meteors was moving about; pacing, searching. The thumps softened, moved on, until nothing was heard once more.
Everyone relaxed. A teenager shifted from his uncomfortable position, and like lightning, he was gone. The people nearby shuddered nervously. A little girl began to sniffle against her father’s shoulder.
A sickening crunch sounded, and everyone within hearing jumped and looked over. Women covered their mouths in a silent scream of terror and shielded their children’s curious gazes while the men looked on in undisguised repugnance yet unable to look away.
Lying there, in a pool of blood that was quickly growing, was the teenager. His eyes were widened in fear, and his mouth gaping in a scream that was not heard, would never be heard. His insides were gone; only his stomach remained.
Once they were finally able to look away, they searched the area from where the body was thrown and came eye to eye with a creature unlike anything on the face of their home planet. Golden eyes glimmered coldly in the pale sunlight, surrounded by taught, brown skin.
Those not immobilized by fear rose from their positions and ran—some not making a mere two feet from where they’d been. Screams of terror once again sounded throughout the Planet.
GORDA had come…
1 = pronounced "Lore -- ring -- gul"
2 = I meant "foreign" with this, not..."creatures from another planet" type thing. Just "foreign".
And...I could have written this better... ::sighs::
::is very disappointed in himself::
